Lwando Scott

Lwando Scott was born in the city of Port Elizabeth in South Africa in 1985. He grew up in the township of Kwazakhele where he was raised by a single parent, his mother. He matriculated from Hillside Secondary School in 2003.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resource Management completed in 2006. He was awarded his Bachelor of Social Science (Honors) specialising in Diversity Studies in December 2007 at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Living in Cape Town had been a life long dream for Lwando, so he checked that off his list in 2007. While living in Cape Town Lwando worked at iNCUDISA (Intercultural and Diversity Studies Institute of Southern Africa) at the University of Cape Town. He was intern for a year and helped in doing administration work and also conducting research at the Institute. Lwando was also involved with Rainbow UCT, which is the GLBTI organization at UCT. The organization is busy with activism work and creating a social network for GLBTI students at the university and greater Cape Town.

In January 2008 Lwando began his  masters degree in Social Responsibility in the Human Relations Department at St Cloud State University. He is also the Graduate Assistant, Assistant Hall Director at Stearns Hall at St Cloud State University. He will be doing this for two years. He is part of the Social Justice and Diversity Committee in Residential Life. He is also the secretary for the newly formed Social Responsibility Club. He has created and participated in a number of activities that involve social justice on campus.

Current Activities:

  • He is a Graduate Assistant in the department  of res life at St Cloud State University working on assessments
  • Secretary of the Social Responsibility Club which focuses on Social Justice Issues.
  • Doing analysis for Dr. Oyedele on the representation of black people in adverts in South Africa.
  • Thinking about, reading and hopefully writing his masters thesis which is due in December 2009.

I’ve got nothing against gays, I think its awesome you do what you do, and see I’m also blind .. so I know about social injustice. Hope you read and somehow get back to me. Thanks, Girlyboy

On the topic of hypcorites – sometimes the use of that word stems from an over-reliance on seeing the world in black and white…being from SA, you can take comfort in your ability to understand the varying shades in between…
